Give us all a chance to learn
More exhibitors than ever before, including , had stalls at the World Open Learning for Business Conference & Exhibition (WOLCE '98) in Birmingham at the end of September. The growth of 'lifelong learning', which has given a major 'push' to the open learning sector over the past few years, has yet to achieve its full market potential.Yet, judging by the demand for 'edutainment' CD-ROM titles such as Encarta (costing around £50), there is a market for well-produced, multimedia-based, computer-assisted learning programmes among 'individual' as well as corporate buyers. Furthermore, the temptations of networked courseware seem almost irresistible. And there are tools available which will not only produce the courseware but also monitor its usage, assess the learner, evaluate the training and produce management reports.
