Changing times bring time for change
Already, as we enter this new century, we can begin to sense some changes that are fast approaching the world of training and development. One is the rapid development of e-learning to complement the e-business phenomenon fed by the Internet. Another is the growing desire for measurement of development activities. There will be increasing pressure from main board members for these measures to be stated in terms of the achievement of business objectives: return on investment (ROI) or even the organisation's profitability. Increasingly, technology is making possible the objective and detailed analysis of learning activities as never before. There are a number of effective, generic learning management systems, enabling the building for instance of competency databases. Specialists in HR and training functions need to develop new skills. A happy new millennium and a brave new world to you all!
