When Prontaprint, Europes largest print franchise, recently embarked on a major re-branding exercise, its goal was to position itself as the UKs premier business provider of print on demand, digital design, print and copy services. The move is in direct response to a highly competitive market dictated by speed, quality and customer service. Partnering with Manpower has enabled the company to focus on developing business plans with its centres and ensuring training requirements correspond with this new business direction. Outsourcing is an issue that has been around for a long time. What is surprising, however, is that, given its enduring relevance, relatively little progress has been made towards its achievement. But outsourcing remains a hot issue for many companies, including the practice of outsourcing training delivery. So, what are the barriers and how can they be overcome? Professor Colin Coulson-Thomas, chairman of ASK Europe plc, argues that managers need to break some old psychological tethers.
